Like the Stars

She was different,
ever – changing
like a chameleon.

She didn’t know
what to do
nor what she
would have done.

She was different;
a ball of confusion,
never fitting any mold.
A contradiction,
a paradox –
constantly shunned
and misunderstood.

Yet she was
drawn to the stars.
Just like the stars,
she wished to shine
in the dark.

She was terrified
of the world.
Like the stars,
she wished to be
in the dark,
distant and unreachable
yet seen clearly.

And like how she yearns
to be one of the stars,
she yearns for you too –
Yet you sit too high
up above her
to be reached as you
were already one –
the very reason why she
wants to be one too.

And so she stands from
afar just to see you shine
beautifully
and wistfully
yearns for you.
